Too many things vanish too quickly, in my opinion. So much of man’s effort is transitory. Very few of us can create a Panama Canal or a Mount Rushmore – certainly not all by ourselves and not in one small lifetime. Even when groups of people come together with good intent and throw all their hopes and effort into the building of something they hope will last, it does not endure.
